Spotlight: Aman i Khas

Greetings travel addicts! We know it has been awhile since you last heard from us but it hasn't been for lack of travel inspiration. And the best way to bring us back is with a destination and resort that is nothing short of truly inspirational.

Rajasthan is known in India for being a region full of colors, culture, and wildlife. Block prints, tie-dye, Zari embroidery, and blue pottery are all images that spring to local minds when Rajasthan is mentioned. Rajasthan includes some of India's best destinations, including Jaipur and Udaipur. Luxury hotels abound in these places but we were looking for something a little more special. Something along the lines of waking up to see lions drinking at a lake, fine cuisine prepared in an open fire, and sleeping under the stars in a luxury tent. Good thing the Aman resorts have just the place. Aman-i-Khas is an extraordinary destination - nestled quietly in the Ranthambore National Park. The name literally means special peace and is located in an ideal spot to see natural tigers as well as visit the colorful forts and villages nearby.

Did we also mention how luxurious the tents are? They can almost make you feel like a rich explorer being treated like royalty while discovering the flora and fauna of a faraway land. The camp has an organic garden on site where they grow all of their ingredients for their delectable dishes served throughout the day.

The camp's focal point is the glorious outdoor fireplace, an ideal point to meet before the wildlife safaris into the park or for star-gazing with a nightcap after dinner. Surrounded by trees, this spot is great for all the bird-watchers out there as the region is home to more than 350 unique bird species.

Don't miss the beautiful Banas river that is decorated with natural lilies and where waterbird and water fowl come to drink. Guests of the hotel can stroll the riverbank or explore the area by camel and relax with a picnic style lunch before your return.

If this is your first trip to India, why not let the Aman group plan a six night northern India itinerary? It includes two nights at the Aman New Delhi, two nights in Amanbagh (voted best resort for 2010 in India by Gallivanter Travels), & two nights at Aman-i-Khas.
